The Critical Mineral and Materials Corridor (CMC) is a BMI initiative aimed at developing an infrastructure and logistics network to support the efficient movement, processing, and distribution of essential minerals and materials.
The CMC will enable Northern Ontario's lithium mining and refining operations to supply Southern Ontario's burgeoning EV manufacturing sector with secure domestic lithium resources instead of imports. Canadian lithium, Canadian manufacturing, new Canadian opportunities.
Developing the EV Sector
On May 14th, Asahi Kasei announced their unprecedented $1.6B investment in Port Colborne to build an EV battery separator plant on land purchased from BMI. Their presence in Ontario supports Bloomberg's #1 ranking for Canada in lithium-ion battery supply chain capability, #4 in the world for EV raw materials, and a top 10 producer of nickel, cobalt, graphite, and aluminum.
